El Distrito Más Latino
Hola!!
I've officially been in the CCM (that's the name of the Mexico MTC) for a week! It's kind of crazy because it feels like it went by sooooo slowly but at the same time we have learned so much Spanish and I can't believe I've actually been doing this for a week!
We started Day 2 with going over the alphabet, and yesterday we had a 15 minute lesson all in Spanish with some members. It's crazy because I already could understand everything they were saying in Spanish!! We definitely relied on google translate when it was our turn to talk but still knew a lot! I've been keeping track and since last week I've already learned 272 new words.
This week, we learned about a program called "Speak Your Language" where you rate yourself on how often you speak Spanish.
One Elder declared in the most grammatically incorrect sentence of the week, "We are not english, latin now, english is disappear, latin only!" (in broken Spanish of course). My teacher was DYING laughing and declared that we are the "Most Latin District" in the CCM. She changed our groupchat name and everything hahaha. Keep in mind that there are 12 people in my district, 11 of whom are white and 8 of whom are blonde.
Speaking of my district, they are THE BEST! My companion and I are the only Hermanas and it's so fun!! Anytime a visiting teacher joins our Zoom they get so excited that our district has sisters.
My companion, Hermana Cannon is soooo cute and so spiritual!! It's so hard to stay focused when we study together because we have so many things to talk about. The craziest thing is that we lived in the SAME dorm all of freshman year (only a floor apart) and shared friends yet we never met!!!! And for the million people that are going to ask me, she's from Utah and is going to Jacksonville, Florida haha.
Home CCM is definitely weird. It's totally awesome that we're able to connect and have so much fun as a district and feel the Spirit, but being at home is strange. I still live in the same place with all of the same people, but my entire life is completely different. I almost feel like I'm living a double life because for most of the day I sit at a computer being "Hermana Cox" but then I go to a family gathering and I'm Grace again.
I also had the awesome experience of going to my friend Emily's mission farewell this week!! She's going to Berlin, Germany and gave an amazing talk! I also got to meet mi compañera and she's even better in person ;)
If you made it this far then you're amazing and I'm calling in favors with God to get you triple the blessings (I think I can do that because I'm a missionary).
I love you all!!!
XOXO,
Hermana Cox
